I just returned from Bryan Adams concert at Grizzlies Stadium in Fresno, California on June 4, 2005. ;D Wow!!!! He and the band were absolutely FANTASTIC! ;D ;D They put on a AWESOME show that was unbelievable! Musically, it was thrilling and it was perfect!! I loved it! ;D ;D ;D
What was disappointing to me was the audience (more below).
The concert stage was far out in the middle of the baseball field at the stadium. There were only two types of tickets: floor area and bleachers. The floor area (standing only) was right in front of the stage. Those were the expensive tickets that sold out in only a few minutes.
I was in the bleachers. I had a great angle of view, about the best in the stadium, but I was too far away from the stage... probably about 60 meters! I really couldn't even see the faces of the band members. And I was about as close as one could get with a bleachers ticket!
I was disappointed in the audience, especially at the beginning. They were rude to the first opening act, Randy Coleman (information: www.randycoleman.net/). I thought that he was very good, but the audience was very inconsiderate. You would think that, when you pay a lot of money for a concert, that you should try to enjoy the whole thing, but people were walking around, socializing, drinking beer, posing to attract the opposite sex, etc. but they were NOT really listening. They missed a darn good singer.
From my seat, I could see Bryan Adams, Keith Scott, Mickey Curry, Norm Fisher, and Gary Breit were ALL wearing (ba-boom! surprise!) blue jeans and black t-shirts as they walked from their tour bus to the back door of the stage. I pointed them out to a girl next to me and she said, "who are they?" Ugh!! Like the majority of the audience, she had come mainly to see Def Leppard. At first, the audience was exhibiting the same rudeness to Bryan and his band, as they had done to Randy Coleman. It seems like most of the tickets for the floor area were purchased by fans of Def Leppard. I could see many of these people on the floor area with their backs turned, talking and drinking beer as Bryan and the band played the first few songs of their set. A steady flow of people were walking away from the stage to use the bathrooms or buy beer. It made me embarrassed and angry , to see such a lack of respect for Bryan Adams.
This disrespect did NOT last, however. I think that Bryan Adams and the band won over the audience and earned their respect. ;D At first, it seemed like only an older generation, those who remember Bryan from his earlier days of the album "Cuts Like A Knife," were focused on the music. However, by the second half of the concert, after some awesome guitar work by Keith Scott and Bryan, the whole audience was really paying attention and giving the band lots of applause, cheers and whistles. They were singing along and dancing. Bryan even praised us for how well we sang the "na-na-na" part on "Cuts Like A Knife." During "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You," the whole stadium was echoing with the voices of those who were singing along. These were times when I got goosebumps, I tell you! Keith Scott did an unbelievable guitar solo on "It's Only Love." Bryan Adams' voice was right on... it was like listening to a studio recording!! He's a great live singer. By the end of their part of the concert, the whole audience seemed to be listening and having a good time, and they closed to thunderous applause. ;D The band quickly left the stage. I saw them behind stage carrying plastic water bottles as they immediately went back to their tour bus. The bus left a little while later, probably heading for San Bernardino, California, the site of their next gig the next night. I had come with a pen and some CD booklets, just in case, and I was prepared to get an autograph for Caro, but I had no such chance.
He performed only ONE song from the Room Service album: "This Side of Paradise." For just this one song, Bryan used the white guitar with the "Room Service" written on it!
Then Def Leppard took the stage and one could immediately tell that most of the audience in Fresno had come to see Def Leppard. There were a lot of drunk people and I saw a lot of the Def Leppard fans (who only had bleacher tickets) run past the security officers onto the floor area. They performed well also, but I decided to leave a little early so I would not have to wait along time to get my car out of the parking lot.
In spite of some annoyances, I am very glad that I had the opportunity to see and hear Bryan Adam's perform live in concert.
Here is the setlist for Bryan Adams' concert in Fresno on June 4, 2005:
Unfortunately, I was not able to take any pictures because my camera was not allowed.
At the time that I picked up my tickets, I had been told that cameras were allowed but, when I was in line prior to the concert, the concert security officers told me that I could NOT bring it in, so I had to put it back into my car.
But I DID pick up a Bryan Adams 2005 Tour Program for our mighty administrator, Caro. If she would like to have it, I will mail it to her! ;D
